The Southland Hotspot Guide for Angelenos: October 2011

This trip came to mind after my boyfriend, Conor, made a subtle comment about wanting to see the Hollywood sign from a helicopter. So being the awesome girlfriend that I am, I figured what a perfect birthday gift. I researched local helicopter companies and different tour packages and found myself rather turned off by the cost. Until I came across Adventure Helicopter Tours of course. The tour Conor and I took was a fantastic 15 minute "Historic Landmarks" tour for $89.00 per person, which came to $200 for the both of us including gas. This particular tour included the following sights: • Burbank • Universal Studios and movie production sets • Hollywood sign • Hollywood Bowl • Lake Hollywood • Griffith Observatory • Griffith Park • Angeles National Forest • San Fernando Valley. Upon arriving we met our pilot, Shawn Baker, who was nothing less than amazing. He was open to questions, informative, and passionate about flying. He offered us some water and showed us a map of the sights we were soon to fly over. We then hopped into a golf cart for a quick ride to the helicopter landing pad where his fire engine red helicopter was "parked." The flight was a quick 15 minute journey, but worth every cent. I'm looking forward to a twilight tour one of these days.
